What Are Physical Exams?
A physical exam simply allows a doctor to examine you and determine that you are in good health, or healthy enough to do a certain job or activity. They are typically a requirement and provide you with the opportunity to take preventative action and know that you do not have anything to worry about. The staff at WiseCare is extremely compassionate and caring.
Types of Physicals
There are a variety of physicals you can schedule, depending on the purpose your physical serves.
WiseCare offers the following types of Physicals:
Annual Physicals
Back to School or College physicals
Workplace Physicals
Sport Physicals
Your annual physical typically involves blood work as well as a thorough exam which will show if there are any existing problems.
SCHOOL PHYSICALS
Before your child goes back to school or college, officials often want to see paperwork that proves your child is healthy and vaccinated.
Many colleges have minimum physical health requirements for incoming students, ensuring that the safety and wellness of the school population is not compromised by illness or communicable disease. Physical examination requirements vary by college, although some states have mandates requiring proof of specific vaccines or other medical information. Other colleges set their own physical exam and general health requirements.
SPORTS PHYSICAL
The purpose of a sports physical is to ensure you are physically able to handle playing sports and that you will not run into any medical difficulties.
Physical exams typically are required of intercollegiate athletes before practicing, competing or trying out for a team sport. Physical exams prove an incoming student is healthy enough to participate in strenuous physical activity.
WORK PHYSICALS
Depending on the type of exam, the nature of the job, and other factors, it’s often legal for a prospective employer to ask candidates to take a physical exam. But there are conditions regarding what the employer can ask, what type of exam can be performed, and when an examination can take place.
Pre-employment examinations may include physical exams as well as health inquiries including drug and alcohol tests, psychological tests, and physical or mental health assessments.
Additionally, employees may be required to have physicals if health or fitness is a job requirement. For example, police officers or firefighters may be asked to demonstrate physical fitness necessary to perform the functions of their jobs.
